I joined B.l.C. Realty in 1977 and secured my broker's license in 1980. Prior to becoming a real estate professional, I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in pre-med but moved to Lake Vermilion to help operate a resort owned by my family. I also co-owned a residential construction business, building and remodeling homes in the Lake Vermilion area prior to becoming a full time real estate agent. Since that time, I have successfully handled hundreds of real estate transactions, gaining a reputation as an honest, competent and effective professional who is dedicated to protecting and promoting the interests of my clients, both buyers and sellers. I have current knowledge of the increasingly complex set of laws, regulations and procedures related to buying, selling and building on lakeshore property. I credit my considerable success to consistently providing an outstanding level of service to those who entrust their business to me.
I also indirectly credit my success to my long term involvement in and support of our community. I am a past President of and current Board Member (since 1978) of the Lake Vermilion Sportsmen's Club. This very effective organization seeks to improve the Lake Vermilion fishery, protect the quality of its water and shore land, promote safe boating practices and promote sound conservation practices in the Lake Vermilion watershed. I serve as the Treasurer of the W.C. Heiam Medical Foundation which supports the Cook Hospital. To date, the Foundation has raised over $1 million to purchase medical equipment and to create an endowment to keep this critically important community asset viable well into the future. I have also served as President of the Cook Area Chamber of Commerce and President and Trail Administrator of the Ashawa Trail Ski Club as well as on the boards of other organizations and businesses.
Finally, I am proud to be a member of the National Association of Realtors®, the Minnesota Association of Realtors and the Range Association of Realtors. These fine professional organizations work to promote and protect the interests of private property owners. Their members, Realtors ® pledge to observe a strict Code of Ethics which holds them to high standards of honor, competency, cooperation and service. In addition, these organizations strongly support the Federal Fair Housing Act, which prohibits discrimination in housing because of race or color, national origin, religion, sex, familial status and handicap or disability. I feel that these organizations have contributed significantly to the fact that a higher percentage of Minnesotans own homes than in any other state in the nation.
My wife and business partner for over 32 years, Nan, and I thoroughly enjoy living in our home on Lake Vermilion. Nan coordinates my real estate marketing efforts and also works for the W.C. Heiam Medical Foundation as database manager. We feel privileged to be able to live in the Northwoods where we can enjoy many of our favorite recreational activities such as boating, canoeing, hydrobiking, fishing, camping, bird and wildlife watching , hiking, cross country skiing and back country snowshoeing.
